Projects

International Children's Street Libraries

In January 2024 PlaceMakingNSW engaged the City North Men's Shed to build, decorate and install 20 street libraries in Darling Harbour as part of the celebrations surrounding International Childrens Literacy Day held on 2 April.  Over 3 months the project has given our Members the opportunity to learn new skills whilst conducting a worthwhile community project.  The libraries were packed with over 350 children's books in 20 different languages. Many books were donated by their respective Embassy and local residents.  We were especially pleased to receive an assortment of indigenous Australian story books donated by the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. The installation was officially opened by the Member for Sydney, Alex Greenwich, MP on 5 April 2024 and will be in place until 7 May 2024.

Rowing Scull Storage Rack Supports

In early September 2023 CNMS completed manufacture of 32 sets of rowing scull storage rack supports for North Shore Rowing Club.  The project gave members the opportunity to practice and gain confidence using multiple workshop machines.

Electric Cars

We have recently commenced refurbishing an assortment of electric cars that have been kindly provided by Therapies for Kids.  These cars will be on donated to young children with mobility issues to give them some independence and allow them to have some fun.  The first of these cars was handed over to St Gabriels School on Thursday 5 January 2023

Street Library

We recently completed a street library so residents of Millers Point and Dawes Point can exchange books among themselves.  The project started as bookcase that was kindly donated to us.

Wooden Warrior Repair

Jeff has been turning his hand to repairing a wooden warrior statue for one of our other Members

Woodwork Bench

Our first project was to build our own woodworking bench.  The frame and other timber was kindly donated to us.  This very sturdy bench will now be the centrepiece of the CNMS activities for years to come.
